Celebrating Community College Awareness Month: Empowering Students, Strengthening Communities

*PRESS RELEASE*
EAGLE PASS, TX – April is Community College Awareness Month, and Southwest Texas College proudly joins the nationwide celebration by highlighting the power of accessible, affordable, and life-changing education.
Community colleges serve as gateways to opportunity, providing students of all ages with the tools to pursue higher education, enter the workforce, or upskill for career advancement. This month, Southwest Texas College is proud to showcase recent initiatives that are making a measurable impact across the region:
The continued success of the Early College Academy, where high school students can earn college credit while completing their diploma, giving them a valuable head start in their academic and professional journeys.
A growing dual enrollment program, now serving 10th-grade students, offers the chance to earn a one-year certificate in high-demand fields by the time they graduate high school.
The expansion of career and technical education pathways, including programs in automotive and welding technology, aligns students with real-world skills and industry needs.
A renewed focus on community outreach and engagement ensures that families understand the value of community college and the opportunities it provides.
These efforts would not be possible without the dedication and collaboration of our key partners, whose support and shared vision continue to drive innovation and student success throughout our community.
Guided by the theme “Dream. Connect. Belong.”, Southwest Texas College remains committed to fostering an inclusive environment where every student is empowered to pursue their goals, build meaningful connections, and find their place in a supportive learning community.
“These accomplishments reflect our ongoing mission to break down barriers and open doors for every student,” said Brenda Hoffman, Vice President of Eagle Pass Campus. “Community colleges are not just institutions of learning—they are engines of growth, innovation, and empowerment.”
As part of Community College Awareness Month, Southwest Texas College encourages everyone to learn more about the programs available, connect with student support services, and celebrate the contributions of community colleges across Texas and beyond.
