Every April, we recognize Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) to raise the community’s knowledge of sexual violence, prevention, and how to support survivors. This month encourages individuals to open the conversations centered around respect, consent, and healthy relationships. This campaign calls for systemic change, which would address the root of sexual violence and create safer environments.
The 2025 national theme for SAAM is “Together We Act, United We Change,” which highlights how collective action can make a difference in preventing and addressing sexual harassment, abuse, and assault.
From attending local events to making impactful statements of solidarity, we can participate in SAAM in many ways. By wearing the color teal, individuals can support survivors and engage with others about healthy relationships and consent.
While awareness and education are important, it’s essential to ensure survivors that they are not alone and help is within reach. If you or someone you know has experienced sexual violence, help is available. The National Sexual Assault Hotline offers free, confidential support 24/7 at 1-800-656-HOPE (4673) or via online chat at online.rainn.org. <This message was edited>
