United States Vice-President JD Vance is scheduled to visit the United States-Mexico border in Eagle Pass on Wednesday, March 5, 2025. Vance is scheduled to visit an immigration processing center and present public remarks concerning the Trump Administration’s immigration enforcement program at venerable Shelby Park on the banks of the Rio Grande River amid tight security measures.
Tentatively, Vice-President Vance is scheduled to present his public comments at Shelby Park at approximately 12:45 p.m. The City of Eagle Pass-owned public park, Shelby Park, was unilaterally seized from the City of Eagle Pass and its residents by Texas Governor Greg Abbott on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, using an emergency declaration from his controversial Operation Lone Star Program and to this date has not returned possession of the public park to the taxpayers of Eagle Pass, catapulting it as the epic center of American immigration enforcement debate during the 2024 Presidential Election.
Vance may be accompanied by United States Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth during his visit to the U. S.-Mexico border at Eagle Pass.
The City of Eagle Pass issued a public notice that the Eagle Pass International Bridge No. 1 will be closed to traffic and the public from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, March 5, 2025. The closure is believed to be related to security reasons for Vice-President Vance’s visit to Eagle Pass.
