The Maverick County Hospital District Board of Directors named Interim Chief Executive Officer Nestor Bonilla as the new permanent Chief Executive Officer at their Board meeting held on Monday, February 24, 2025 after discussing the agenda item in Executive Session and returning into Open Session to make the formal motion and vote before the public.
“We are pleased to announce that Nestor Bonilla has been selected as the permanent Chief Executive Officer by the Board of Directors after an eight months search for one. Mr. Bonilla is a veteran employee of 18 years with the Maverick County Hospital District, 11 years of which were as Chief Financial Officer and the past eight months as Interim Chief Executive Officer. During his tenure as interim Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Bonilla demonstrated he possessed the knowledge and experience required of a Chief Executive Officer, which the Board unanimously agreed with and formally named him as the new Chief Executive Officer,” Aaron. Valdez, President of the Maverick County Hospital District Board of Directors said.
“Mr. Bonilla has a great wealth of institutional experience and knowledge of the Maverick County Hospital District having worked here for the past 18 years and a command of the complex health care financial systems in our state and country,” Adolfo Olivares, Vice-President of the Maverick County Hospital District Board said. “Mr. Bonilla distinguished himself while serving as our Interim Chief Executive Officer during the past eight months,” Olivares added.
Bonilla stated that he was honored to be named as the permanent Chief Executive Officer of the Maverick County Hospital District and thanked the Board of Directors for their confidence and trust in his leadership and management experience to lead the county public health organization in its expansion of health care services in the community.
Bonilla was named Interim Chief Executive Officer in July 2024 by the Maverick County Hospital District Board after the resignation of its former CEO. Prior to being named Interim CEO, Bonilla served 11 years as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the Maverick County Hospital District. Bonilla has a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree with a Health Care Administration concentration from the University of Texas at Tyler and a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) from Sul Ross State University.
Bonilla takes the helm of the local county health care system at a critical moment in its history as it seeks to expand specialty medical services to the 60,000 residents of Maverick County while facing challenging financial times with the proposed cuts to Medicaid and Medicare by President Donald J. Trump. A large percentage of Maverick County residents depend on current Medicaid and Medicare coverage for their health care needs.
The Maverick County Hospital District Board of Directors is composed of Aaron Valdez, President; Adolfo Olivares, Vice-President; Rebecca Robinson, Secretary-Treasurer; and Board members Dr. David Chisum and Dr. Cruz Bernal.
