Consulate of Mexico at Eagle Pass Honors Eight Women Leaders for International Women’s Day

The Consulate of Mexico at Eagle Pass, Texas under the leadership of Consul Vivian Juarez Mondragon hosted the Second Annual International Women’s Day Reception honoring eight distinguished women from the local United States-Mexico border on Thursday, March 6, 2025 at the City of Eagle Pass International Center for Trade.
The Second Annual International Women’s Day Reception purpose is to celebrate the extraordinary contributions of women from the Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico and Eagle Pass, Texas border during International Women’s Month in March 2025.
Founded in March 2024 by Consul of Mexico at Eagle Pass Vivian Juarez Mondragon, the International Women’s Day Reception has quickly become an important community event that recognizes the close bonds, collaboration, and significant contributions of women from Piedras Negras and Eagle Pass, transforming the international sister cities’ culture, education, economies, and quality of life for the benefit of all citizens.
Kinney County, Texas Justice of the Peace Narce D. Villarreal was the keynote speaker at the Second Annual International Women’s Day Reception, sharing her journey as a woman in the Texas legal and judiciary systems with the guests.
The eight women selected and recognized by the Consulate of Mexico at Eagle Pass and the Sul Ross State University International Small Business Development Center from the border cities of Piedras Negras-Eagle Pass include Eagle Pass Interim Police Chief Amy Gonzalez for her contributions in public safety; Southwest Texas College at Eagle Pass Vice-President Brenda Hoffman for her leadership in academic institutions of higher learning; Sul Ross State University International Small Business Development Center Director Elizabeth Pena for her business and economic development counseling of entrepreneurs; United Medical Centers Nurse Patricia Reynolds Munoz for her contributions to public health; Virginia Cazares Pacheco for her extraordinary contributions to culture and the arts; Bertha Alicia Reyes Berlanga for her contributions to mass communications and journalism; Maria Trinidad Hernandez Ibarra for her leadership in non-profit organizations; and Maria Esperanza Chapa Garcia for her extraordinary contributions in education and student development.
Distinguished artist Lupita de la Paz, Executive Director of Casa de la Cultura in Del Rio, Texas, entertained the guests and honorees with her beautiful guitar and singing at the event.
Consul Vivian Juarez Mondragon congratulated all the women as well as those honored at the reception for their leadership and contributions while advocating for fair and equal treatment of women in society.
The Second Annual International Women’s Day Reception was an outstanding success and contributed to raising solidarity and recognition of women in society.
