City of Eagle Pass Adjusts Solid Waste Service Rates for the First Time in 14 Years
* PRESS RELEASE* January 29, 2025
Eagle Pass, TX – The City of Eagle Pass has announced an adjustment to the rates for solid waste services, marking the first increase since 2010. This decision comes as a necessary step to address rising operational costs and ensure the continued efficiency and sustainability of waste management services. The new rates will take effect on February 1, 2025.
Over the past 14 years, the cost of operating solid waste services has significantly increased. From fuel and maintenance to the cost of specialized equipment, the economic landscape has changed dramatically.
“The cost of equipment and trucks has risen considerably since 2010,” said Solid Waste Director Daniel Ibarra. “What we paid for a garbage truck back then is nowhere near what it costs today. This adjustment allows us to keep up with those increased expenses while maintaining the high level of service our community expects.”
Mayor Rolando Salinas, Jr. emphasized the importance of this change for the city’s growth. “These adjustments are necessary to ensure that Eagle Pass remains a clean, thriving city. We understand that any increase can be challenging, but this is a critical step to move our city
forward and maintain quality services for all residents.”
City Manager Homero Balderas echoed the sentiment, adding, “This is about the future of Eagle Pass. By updating these rates, we can reinvest in our community, modernize our operations, and address the increasing costs of providing essential services.”
The updated tariffs, effective February 1, 2025, ultimately go back to an open budget that is reinvested into improving the quality of life for Eagle Pass residents. Funds generated will support the replacement of aging equipment, upgrades to infrastructure, and enhanced efficiency in waste collection operations. The City of Eagle Pass remains committed to transparency and ensuring that these funds are used responsibly to improve the lives of all residents.
