City of Eagle Pass Holds Groundbreaking for Hike and Bike Trail

On Wednesday, December 18, 2024, the City of Eagle Pass heldthe groundbreaking ceremony for the new Hike and Bike Trail Project located behind the Patsy Winn Sports Complex. “This (project) is all about improving the quality of life for our residents,” informed Mayor Rolando Salinas, “we need places to walk, more places for recreation, more places for exercise, and this is what it’s about.”
The new Hike and Bike Trail will be approximately a mile of adventurous paths for Eagle Pass residents to explore. The Texas Parks and Wildlife granted the City of Eagle Pass $500,000 which the city matched, making the Hike and Bike Trail a 1 million dollar project. “We must remember the importance of enjoying nature,” voice Councilwoman, Monica Cruz, “enjoying the outdoors brings so much to all of us. It bring joy, as well as physical and mental health.” The Assistant City Manager, Ivan Morua, informed of the uniqueness of this project as this is the City’s first hike and bike plan. “It’s a really beautiful project,” commented Mr. Morua, “We hope this is the first of many phases as we intended to connect to El Indio and to Second Street.”
