2025 Maverick County Junior Livestock Show Festivities Kicks-Off in January

The highly anticipated 2025 Maverick County Junior Livestock Show and Sale (MCJLS) festivities kicks-off with a slate of activities in January 2025 leading up to the granddaddy event of the show, the Maverick County Junior Livestock Show and Sale during January 22-25, 2025 at the Zan Mathies Showbarn at the Maverick County Lake in Eagle Pass, Texas, announced Armando De La Cruz, President of the Maverick County Junior Livestock Show Association (MCJLSA).
The first activity on the calendar is the prestigious Maverick County Junior Livestock Show Pageant on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at 4 p.m. at the Zan Mathies Showbarn in Eagle Pass. There are seven pageant categories and four appointed titles available.
The seven pageant categories are the following: Little Miss MCJLS (ages 4-6); Junior Miss MCJLS (ages 7-9); Pre-Teen Miss MCJLS (ages 10-12); Teen Miss MCJLS (ages 13-15); Miss MCJLS (ages 16-19); Little Mr. MCJLS (ages 4-6); and Junior Mr. MCJLS (ages 7-9). There are also four appointed titles available for a cost of $250, including: Tiny Mr. MCJLS (ages 0-1); Tiny Miss MCJLS (ages 0-1); Toddler Mr. MCJLS (ages 2-3); and Toddler Miss MCJLS (ages 2-3).
The deadline to register for the Maverick County Junior Livestock Show Pageant is Friday, January 3, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. Registration fee is $100 per contestant. Late entries will be accepted until January 6, 2025 at a registration fee of $150. No candidates will be accepted after January 6th. The following activity is the famous Third Annual Maverick County Junior Livestock Show BBQ Cook-Off State Championship on January 17-18, 2025 at the Zan Mathies Showbarn at the Maverick County Lake in Eagle Pass. There is $5,000 guaranteed prize money available for winners of the BBQ Cook-Off State Championship. There is a $175 Entry Fee for the BBQ Cook-Off. Western horse trail riders will enjoy the popular Maverick County Junior Livestock Show Cabalgata on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at 10 a.m. at the Zan Mathies Showbarn at the Maverick County Lake in Eagle Pass. There is a $20 Entry Fee and all horses participating must have a Negative Coggins Test Results to participate. To facilitate the Coggins Test requirement, the Eagle Pass Veterinary Diagnostic Hospital is administering the test to all horses on Saturday, January 10, 2025 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at their veterinary clinic located at 1990 N. The heralded Maverick County Junior Livestock Show and Sale will be held during January 22-25, 2025 at the Zan Mathies Showbarn at the Maverick County Lake in Eagle Pass. Maverick County 4-H and FFA members will be exhibiting their show animals and competing for championships and showmanship awards throughout the MCJLS.
The granddaddy event is the MCJLS Sale to be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at 11 a.m. at the Zan Mathies Showbarn at the Maverick County Lake in Eagle Pass. All local, regional, and national businesses, entrepreneurs, investors, philanthropists, and friends are cordially invited to register as a Buyer for the MCJLS Sale. The festivities conclude with a traditional Western Dance on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at 8 p.m. at the City of Eagle Pass International Center for Trade in Eagle Pass, Texas featuring a live country and western band to be announced.
