Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber Re-Elected at November 5, 2024 Election

Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber, a Democrat, was re-elected to a fourth four-year term convincingly over challenger Republican Party candidate Jose Juan Betancourt at the November 5, 2024 General Election, garnering a total of 8,461 votes (57.82%) compared to Betancourt’s respectable 6,172 votes (42.18%).
Sheriff Schmerber was first elected in 2012 and won re-election in 2016, 2020, and now 2024.
Sheriff Schmerber has diverse experience having served as a United States Border Patrol Officer and Command Supervisor before seeking election as Sheriff in 2012. He also served as a public school teacher with the Eagle Pass Independent School District prior to joining the United States Border Patrol.
Schmerber is known for being highly accessible and having an open door policy at his office at the Sheriff’s Department.
He is highly regarded by all law enforcement agencies as a reliable partner concerning public safety and security issues in Maverick County.
Schmerber thanked all of his supporters and Maverick County citizens who came out to vote in the November 5th general election, bestowing him the honor and privilege to serve another four years term as their chief law enforcement county officer.
