Democratic Party candidate and incumbent Maverick County Commissioner Precinct 3 Olga M. Ramos nudged Republican Party challenger Carlos “Carlitos” De Los Santos in the November 5, 2024 General Election to win re-election for a second four year term, receiving a total of 2,182 votes (50.83%) compared to De Los Santos’ 2,111 votes (49.17%)—a margin of victory of 71 votes.
County Commissioner Ramos withstood a strong challenge among Maverick County Precinct 3 voters despite a strong Republican Party turnout for former President Donald J. Trump within Maverick County as well as an unprecedented collaborative effort by Democratic Party Maverick County Commissioner Precinct 1 Gerardo “Jerry” Morales with De Los Santos to attempt to defeat her bid for re-election to Commissioners Court.
County Commissioner Ramos campaigned on her record of accomplishments in Precinct 3 during her first term under the motto of “Proven results and actions speaks louder than words.” Ramos campaigned on her many projects developed and approved for the benefit of Precinct 3 residents, including approval of Texas Department of Transportation funding for a Master Plan and Engineering Design of runway improvements to the Maverick County Memorial International Airport; voted for the establishment of a Maverick County Housing Finance Corporation to expand economic development; voted for the adoption of the Metropolitan Planning Organization to support the Texas Department of Transportation Capital Improvement Projects; voted for the establishment of the Maverick County Child Welfare Board; obtained the renovation of the Quemado June Edwards Community Center in collaboration with the Texas Department of Transportation; renovated Elm Creek Park; expanded programs at the Seco Mines Community Center; secured and initiated the construction of a Justice Center Building in Quemado; renovated or established water line infrastructure, public roads, public lighting, and Code Enforcement; and many more projects.
Ramos received support from Maverick County Judge Ramsey English Cantu and many local public officials such as District Attorney Roberto Serna, County Attorney Jaime “A. J.“ Iracheta, Eagle Pass City Councilman Elias Diaz, and prominent residents of Precinct 3. Most importantly, Ramos earned a majority of the votes of Precinct 3 voters who cast their ballot in the November 5th election.
County Commissioner Ramos thanked all the residents of Precinct 3 who voted in the November 5th election and stated she looked forward to continuing serving the residents of Precinct 3 and Maverick County.
