Eagle Pass Independent School District Board of Trustees Elected in November 5, 2024 Election Sworn-In

After a legal challenge presented by Eagle Pass Independent School District Board of Trustee Candidate for Position No. 2, Manuel D. Hernandez, concerning the canvassing of the November 5, 2024 Election results and request for a special election be held for Position No. 2 was dismissed by 293rd Judicial District Court Judge Maribel Flores on Monday, November 18, 2024 at 1:15 p.m. upon having a Court hearing on the merits, the Eagle Pass Independent School District Board of Trustees held a special meeting on November 18th at 6 p.m. at the District Administrative Boardroom to officially canvass the November 5th Election results, Administer the Oath of Office, and Swearing-In ceremony of the four newly elected Board of Trustee members.
The Eagle Pass Independent School District Board of Trustees canvassed the November 5th Election results and approved the final election results with incumbent and Board President Jorge Barrera winning Position No. 1, incumbent Board member Christopher Hiller winning Position No. 2, Jaime C. Barrera winning Position No. , and Tom Gonzalez winning Position No. 7. Incumbent Position No. 6 Board member Dr. Hector Alvarez, Jr. and Position No. 7 Board member Glenna Purcell bids for re-election were defeated by Jaime C. Barrera and Tom Gonzalez, respectively. Alvarez and Purcell were absent at the November 18th Board meeting.
Following the swearing-in of the four elected Board members, the newly composed Eagle Pass Independent School District Board of Trustees proceeded to elect the Board Officers for 2024-2025. Board Vice-President Hilda P. Martinez nominated Jorge Barrera to remain as Board President and after a second of Martinez’s motion, the Board unanimously elected Jorge Barrera as President again. Jorge Barrera then nominated Hilda P. Martinez to be Vice-President again and following a second of his motion, the Board unanimously elected Hilda P. Martinez as Vice-President. The Board then unanimously elected incumbent Board member Christopher Hiller as the new Secretary-Treasurer.
The new Eagle Pass Independent School District Board of Trustee is composed of President Jorge Barrera (Position No. 1), Vice-President Hilda P. Martinez (Position No. 4), Secretary-Treasurer Christopher Hiller (Position No. 2), and Board members Victor E. Perry (Position No. 3), Morris Libson, Jr. (Position No. 5), Jaime C. Barrera (Position No. 6), and Tom Gonzalez (Position No. 7).
Following the election of the Board Officers, the Eagle Pass Independent School District proceeded to address other school district business on the agenda.
