Jaime C. Barrera has authorized the Eagle Pass Business Journal to announce his candidacy for the Eagle Pass Independent School District Board of Trustees Place 6 in the November 5, 2024 election with Early Voting commencing on October 21, 2024 through November 1, 2024.
“My name is Jaime C. Barrera, and it is with great honor that I announce my candidacy for the Eagle Pass Independent School District Board of Trustees Place 6 in the November 5, 2024 election. Supported by my family, including my wife, Marisol Almaraz Barrera, and our four sons, I am eager to serve the community by ensuring every child in our school district receives the best education available in today’s society.
I am currently an owner of Yeager Barrera Mortuary, a family-owned business now in its 98th year, where I have dedicated myself to serving the public with integrity, compassion, and professionalism. Now, I want to extend this commitment to public service, focusing on creating positive change in education.
Since becoming a candidate, two key concerns have come to my attention: first, the Ascender Payroll Platform and, secondly, the Innovation School District adopted by the Eagle Pass Independent School District. Our hardworking school district teachers and staff face ongoing issues with payroll delays caused by Ascender, which I will work to address. Additionally, while Innovation schools can be beneficial, there are concerns about the hiring of non-degreed personnel to address teacher shortages in our schools. We must find a balance between flexibility and maintaining high standards in education.
As a parent of a child with autism, I have firsthand experience with the challenges faced by special needs students. For eight years, my wife and I have fought to secure proper therapies and educational programs for our youngest son, Jacobo Ivan. I am passionate about ensuring that all students, especially those with special needs, receive the resources, support, and compassion they deserve from our school district.
The following is my vision for the Eagle Pass Independent School District:
- Excellence in Education: Invest in modern teaching tools and technology to maintain rigorous academic standards to help every student succeed;
- Fiscal Responsibility: Ensure transparency and accountability of all financial decisions made by the school district; and
- Support for Educators: Advocate for resources, technology, and professional development programs to empower our teachers.
Together, we can create a school district that serves every student and builds a future of excellence and inclusivity.
