Southwest Texas College Holds Graduation for Medical Assistant and Phlebotomy Tech Programs

On September 19, 2024, Southwest Texas College celebrated its fall 2024 graduation of the medical assistant and phlebotomy tech programs at the International Center for Trade in Eagle Pass, Texas. “Today we are here to celebrate and honor the effort and hard work of our students,” stated Kristel Sanchez, SWTJC WFT&D Director.

Sanchez stated “we are here for you as you choose to continue your education or you continue your path of medical assisting.” The clinical medical assistant and phlebotomy tech programs are partnered with the WorkForce Training and Development Division to aid regional businesses and prepare students for certifications for continual education.

Family Nurse Practitioner, Rosa Perez, cattended and opened the ceremony with personal remarks about her own story beginning as a medical assistant. “The challenges that one person faces is a difficult journey and just like every single one of you has a story, a struggle,” informed Rosa Perez, FNP, “but we have to find grit. We have to find that determination for us to succeed in life.”

The medical assistant and phlebotomy tech programs requires three months of devotion to prepare students with the skills and training needed for the medical field.

“I have had the privilege of seeing past classes interact with our cadets,” commented Captain Amy Gonzalez of the Eagle Pass Police Department, “these collaborations demonstrate the power of teamwork and the important role each of you plays in a large community of healthcare providers”.
