Former Eagle Pass Eagles Ace Pitcher Donovan Becerra Stars at Texas-New Mexico Junior College Baseball All-Star Game, Commits to Texas Tech University Red Raiders

Former Eagle Pass High School Eagles (Class of 2023) standout ace right-hand pitcher, Donovan Becerra, a sophomore with the New Mexico Junior College Thunderbirds, was the starting pitcher for the New Mexico Baseball All-Stars Team in the prestigious 2024 Texas-New Mexico Junior College Baseball All-Star Game on Friday, September 20, 2024 held at Dallas Baptist University in Dallas, Texas, throwing high heat and a nasty slider against the Texas All-Stars while striking out two batters, forcing a pop up out, and walking one batter in the first inning of the heavily-recruited game by NCAA Division universities and colleges seeking to bolster their rosters.
San Jacinto Junior College Coach K43, Recruiting Coordinator and former Alumni, stated on his X account (formerly Twitter) that “Donovan Becerra of NMJC Baseball opens up the TX/NM All-Star Game throwing FUEL with 95-98 MPH Fastball and 84 MPH slider.”
Tad Slowik, former Houston Astros Recruiting Director, in X acccount (formerly Twitter) that “Donovan Becerra RHP for New Mexico and Texas Tech commit throws a 97 MPH Fastball for a strike to start TXNMJC All-Star Game. Becerra has electric stuff with 3 plus pitches including a 97 MPH Fastball, nastily slider and power downer curve. Top JUCO arm.”
In his freshman year at New Mexico Junior College, Becerra pitched in 16 games, earned a stellar 9-1 record, had 70 strikeouts in 57 innings pitched, and had a 4.89 ERA. He earned Western Junior College Athletic Conference All-Conference Baseball Pitcher honors.
Becerra is a Class of 2023 graduate of Eagle Pass High School in Eagle Pass, Texas, guiding his alma mater Eagles to three consecutive state playoff berths into the regional semi-finalist championships and earning District 30-6A All-District First Team Pitcher in 2023 and 2022.
Becerra is 6’ 1’’, throws right hand, and weighs 215 pounds, maturing and muscling into his tall and lanky body since graduating from high school.
Becerra is listed as the top right hand pitcher in Junior College in the United States according to American Baseball scouting services. Tad Slowik added that “Texas Tech is off to a huge start in JUCO Baseball Recruiting this Fall. They have landed…Top JUCO Arm in RHP Donovan Becerra at New Mexico.”
Slowik reported Becerra has committed to play for the Texas Tech University Red Raiders in the Big 12 Conference, an NCAA Division I baseball powerhouse.
Donovan Becerra is the son of Alondra Castillo and Ricardo Becerra of Eagle Pass, Texas.
Becerra is scheduled to compete at New Mexico Junior College one additional year.
