Coastal Bend College Slugger Derek Ruiz Selected to Play in Texas-New Mexico Baseball All-Star Game

Former Eagle Pass High School Eagles standout baseball athlete, Derek Ruiz, was selected to represent Coastal Bend College Cougars at the 2024 Texas-New Mexico Junior College Baseball All-Star Game at Dallas Baptist University in Dallas, Texas on Saturday, September 21, 2024, announced Coastal Bend College Head Baseball Coach Ryan Benitez.
Ruiz is now a sophomore at Coastal Bend College and had an outstanding freshman year with the second highest batting average on the Cougars baseball team at .327 and 33 base hits, three Home Runs, and 27 RBIs. Ruiz plays first base for the Cougars and provides leadership on the diamond and off-the-field.
Also named to the Texas-New Mexico Junior College Baseball All-Star Game from Coastal Bend College is middle infielder and outfielder, Harold Laracuarente, who had the highest batting average last year on the Cougars baseball team with a .336 clip and 50 base hits, four Home runs, and 30 RBIs.
Being selected to play in the Texas-New Mexico Junior College Baseball All-Star Game is a top honor of distinction and provides the players an opportunity to be seen and scouted by major universities recruiting at the All-Star Game, including many Division I schools.
Coastal Bend College Head Baseball Coach Ryan Benitez stated “I am very proud of Harold and Derek for this achievement….Harold and Derek are my first All-Stars on the team since last year was my first coaching the Cougars. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for these two young men.”
