Eagle Pass very own World Champion power lifter, Rito Flores, Jr., continued dominating his sub-junior 74 kg. category in the international powerlifting world as he earned the overall Gold Medal at the 2024 International Powerlifting Federation’s North American Regional Powerlifting Championship held on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Flores, who just recently graduated from Eagle Pass High School, represented the United States of America at the 2024 North American Regional Powerlifting Championship in his second international powerlifting competition. Flores earned his first Bench Press World Championship on May 23, 2024, only one day before his high school graduation, in his inaugural international meet at the International Powerlifting Federation’s World Class and Equipped Bench Press Championship held in Austin, Texas.
Now, in his only second international competition, Flores earned the overall Gold Medal in his sub-junior 74 kg. category defeating powerlifters from Canada, Mexico, and Latin America at the 2024 North American Regional Powerlifting Championship.
Flores earned the overall Gold Medal by lifting 496.04 lbs. in the powerlifting event, followed by 457.45 lbs. in the squat event, and set a new North American bench press record with a 348.39 lbs., completely dominating his international peers at the North American Regional Powerlifting Championship. A power lifter from Mexico earned the Silver medal and a power lifter from Canada won the Bronze medal.
Flores was also awarded a Gold medal for his bench press North American record and a Bronze medal for his squat attempt at the North American Regional Powerlifting Championship.
Flores has accepted an offer of admission to the University of Texas at Austin in the Fall 2024 as a freshman and looks forward to joining the Texas Longhorns Powerlifting Team to continue his interest in powerlifting and representing both the Longhorns and the United States in future competitions. He has been admitted as a pre-pharmacy student at the prestigious University of Texas at Austin.
Flores is the son of Rito and Marvelia Flores of Eagle Pass, Texas. His future is extremely bright in the powerlifting world as he is a disciplined and dedicated scholar athlete. At the age of 18, he is already a world champion in bench press and today he is the North American Regional Powerlifting Champion in his sub-junior 74 kg. category. How sweet and so awesome to be a world champion and North American champion at only 18 years of age.
