Rene Ramirez Named Winn High School Head Football Coach and Athletic Coordinator

Eagle Pass Independent School District Superintendent Samuel Mijares announced that Rene Ramirez was hired as the new Winn High School Head Football Coach and Athletic Coordinator on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 by the Board of Trustees, succeeding former Head Football Coach. Eric Villasenor whom was promoted to District Athletics Director on July 9, 2024.
Ramirez previously was Co-Defensive Coordinator of the Winn Mavericks varsity football team under the helm of former Head Football Coach Eric Villasenor. Ramirez has been a teacher and coach since 2006 when he began working at Winn High School. He had been an Assistant Coach in Baseball, Football, and Track and Field before becoming C-Defensive Coordinator.
The Winn High School Mavericks will compete in District 14-5A, Division I this season composed of San Antonio Southwest Dragons. San Antonio Southwest Legacy Titans, San Antonio John Jay Mustangs, South San Antonio Bobcats, San Antonio Southside Cardinals, Laredo Cigarroa Toros, Laredo Martin Tigers, and Laredo Nixon Mustangs. District 14-5A, Division I will be a highly competitive district among the nine member high schools.
The Winn Mavericks first football game this 2024 season is on Friday, August 30, 2024 at 7 p. m. against cross-town rival, Eagle Pass Eagles, in the 18th Rivalry meeting between the two local high school teams.
Ramirez thanked the Eagle Pass Independent School District Board of Trustees for their confidence and trust in naming him the new Winn High School Head Football Coach and Athletic Coordinator.
