Eagle Pass Eagles Shut Out Eagle Pass Winn Mavericks 48-0 in 18th Rivalry Meeting

The Eagle Pass High School Eagles shut out their cross-town rival, Eagle Pass Winn High School Mavericks, by a score of 48-0 in the 18th Rivalry Meeting of their storied football series on Friday, August 30, 2024 at the Eagle Pass Independent School District Cozel Foster-Veterans Memorial Stadium in Eagle Pass, Texas, improving their overall series record to 18-0.
The Winn Mavericks won the coin toss at the beginning of the game and elected to defer to the second half, kicking off to the young Eagles offensive unit called Eagle War Cry.
The Eagles took the opening kickoff and marched down the Cozel Foster-Veterans Memorial Stadium on several plays into the Mavericks end zone on the game’s first possession, culminating in an eight yard touchdown run by running back Luis Flores and the point after attempt was good by place kicker Lazaro Frausto to give the Eagles an early 7-0 lead with 8:09 minutes remaining in the first quarter.
The Eagles defense stifled the Mavericks on their first possession and forced them to punt.
The Eagles quickly tallied a second touchdown on a 39 yard pass from quarterback Xavier Barrera to wide receiver Zeke Banda and Lazaro Frausto booted the extra point through the uprights to extend the Eagles lead 14-0 with 4:18 minutes remaining in the first quarter.
The Eagles self-proclaimed Land Shark Defense shut down the potent Mavericks offensive machine throughout the game to keep them off the scoreboard, securing a shut out.
The Eagles scored a third touchdown early in the second quarter after a long drive on a pass completion from quarterback Xavier Barrera to wide receiver Sebastian Velasquez and Lazaro Frausto kicked the extra point to extend the lead 21-0 with 11:38 minutes remaining in the second quarter.
The Eagles added a fourth touchdown before halftime on another drive with running back Luis Flores diving on a three yard plunge into the Mavericks end zone and Lazaro Frausto’s extra point was good, giving the Eagles a 28-0 lead with 7:29 minutes remaining in the second quarter.
The Eagles tallied three touchdowns in the second half, including a 17 yard touchdown sprint by running back Luis Flores, another 20 yard run by Luis Flores, and a three yard run by freshman quarterback Alex Ruiz while Lazaro Frausto kicked two of three extra points to make the final score 48-0.
