Candidate Registrations for Eagle Pass Independent School District and Maverick County Hospital District Boards Open Until August 19th

Candidate registrations for both the Eagle Pass Independent School District (EPISD) and Maverick County Hospital District (MCHD) Boards remain open until Monday, August 19, 2024, at 5 p.m. for anyone wishing to register in one of them.
In the Eagle Pass Independent School District Board of Trustees election of four seats scheduled on November 5, 2024, the following candidates have registered with EPISD Election Administrator Ismael Mijares as of press time on Thursday, August 15, 2024 at 9 a.m.: For Place 1, incumbent Jorge Barrera; For Place 2, incumbent Christopher Hiller, Manuel D. Hernandez, and Sandra Botello-Sassano; For Place 6, incumbent Dr. Hector Alvarez, Jr. and Jaime Barrera; and For Place 7, incumbent Glenna Purcell, Albert Daniel, and Tomas R. Gonzalez.
Any person seeking to register for the EPISD Board of Trustees election may download the candidate application from the EPISD website or pick it up at the District Administrative Office with Business and Finance Director Ismael Mijares or his assistant, Susana Perez, at 579 Madison Street, Eagle Pass, Texas. The candidate application deadline is Monday, August 19th, at 5 p.m. and must be filed with Ismael Mijares at the District Administrative Office. In the Maverick County Hospital District Board of Directors election scheduled on November 5, 2024, the following candidates have registered with MCHD Election Administrator Nestor Bonilla as of press time on Thursday, August 15th, at 9 a.m.: Incumbent Rebecca “Becky” Robinson, Dr. Claudia Rodriguez-Wright, and Dr. Anita Ramirez. There are three positions on the ballot for the Hospital District Board. Unlike the EPISD Board election where candidates register for one of the four places on the ballot, in the MCHD the candidates register at large with the three candidates receiving the most votes at the election being elected to the Hospital District Board.
Any person seeking to register for the MCHD Board of Directors election may pick up the application with Election Administrator Nestor Bonilla or his assistant, Carolina Sanchez, at the District Office located at 3406 Bob Rogers Drive, Suite 230, Eagle Pass, Texas. With the United States Presidential election on the ballot in the November 5, 2024 general election, there is increased interest among local voters to register as a candidate for one of the local board seats in the EPISD and MCHD Boards. Local voters have expressed interest in hearing new ideas from new candidates and leaders within the community for the EPISD and MCHD Boards.
Local voters have also expressed interest in the EPISD Board of Trustees posting the vacant Trustee position previously held by Lupita Fuentes on the November 5th general election, but it appears that the School Board will be appointing a replacement Trustee for the remainder of the term of office until 2026. The EPISD School Board are considering several candidates for the vacant position and are expected to make a decision in the immediate future.
