A majority of Eagle Pass Independent School District Board of Trustees’ seats (four out of seven) are up for election in the November 5, 2024 General Election with each place being contested with either two or three candidates, according to Ismael Mijares, Deputy Superintendent for Business and Finance and Election Administrator of the Eagle Pass Independent School District.
After the closing of the candidate registration period on Monday, August 19, 2024, ten candidates registered for the four places on the Eagle Pass ISD Board of Trustees Election of November 5, 2024, said Ismael Mijares.
For Place 1, incumbent Eagle Pass ISD School Board President Jorge Barrera registered for re-election on the first day of candidate registration, but did not go uncontested as local attorney and concerned taxpayer Edgar H. Juarez registered to challenge him for the position.

For Place 6, incumbent School Board of Trustee Dr. Hector Alvarez, Jr. signed up on the first day of registration period, but is being challenged by local entrepreneur and community volunteer Jaime Barrera.
In Place 7, incumbent School Board of Trustee Glenna Purcell similarly registered with her fellow incumbents on the first day of candidate registration, but has attracted two challengers for the position from native Eagle Passan, Vietnam War and Iraqi War Veteran, and retired U.
