Maverick County Hospital District CEO Alma Martinez Resigns, Interim CEO to be named by Board

Maverick County Hospital District Chief Executive Officer Alma Martinez submitted a letter of resignation to the District’s Board of Directors announcing her plans to resign effective on Friday, July 5, 2024.
Martinez’s sudden and unexpected resignation stunned District employees, patients, and the healthcare community, leaving many dumbfounded on why she had chosen to resign. As of press time, Martinez has not issued a public statement concerning her resignation.
The Maverick County Hospital District Board of Directors have called a special meeting for Friday, July 5, 2024, at 12 Noon at the District’s Second Floor Conference Room, located at 3406 Bob Rogers Drive, Eagle Pass, Texas, posting an agenda calling for an Executive Session to consult with legal counsel and discussion of personnel matters regarding resignation notice of CEO Alma Martinez and possible terms of separation, as well as an Open Session regarding the same issues and the appointment of an interim District Administrator/CEO.
Martinez was initially appointed as Interim CEO of the Maverick County Hospital District on January 3, 2019 and later the Board of Directors appointed her as permanent Administrator/CEO on August 3, 2019. Martinez served five years and six months as CEO of the local hospital district. During her tenure, Martinez implemented many new and innovative healthcare programs at the District.
The Maverick County Hospital District serves over 60,000 residents of Maverick County as well as many more from the Middle Rio Grande region who drive to Eagle Pass to utilize its elite healthcare services.
Prior to joining the Maverick County Hospital District, Martinez was employed at United Medical Centers for many years before leaving it to take the District’s CEO position in 2019.
According to the posted agenda, the District’s Board of Directors will more than likely appoint an Interim Administrator/CEO at the July 5, 2024 special meeting and start a search and selection process for a new CEO.
