The Eagle Pass Independent School District will hold a Board of Trustees Election on Tuesday, November 5, 2024 on four positions on the school board, announced Samuel Mijares, Superintendent of the Eagle Pass Independent School District.
The Eagle Pass Independent School District Board of Trustees positions scheduled for election on November 5, 2024 are those currently held by Board President Jorge Barrera, Board Secretary Dr. Hector Alvarez, Jr., Board Member Glenna Purcell, and Board Member Christopher Hiller.
A fifth Board position is vacant as a result of the passing of Board Member Lupita Fuentes. The EPISD Board may elect to appoint a new Trustee to complete the term of deceased Trustee Lupita Fuentes until the expiration of her term in November 2026, keep it open, or place it on the ballot for the November 5, 2024 election. Eagle Pass and Maverick County voters prefer to have the vacant Board position be placed on the November 5th election, according to a local taxpayer.
Persons interested in registering to seek election for one of the EPISD Board of Trustees positions may apply with the EPISD Business & Finance Director Ismael Mijares at 587 Madison Street, Eagle Pass, Texas 78852, Telephone (830) 773-5181.
The candidate registration period starts on Saturday, July 20, 2024 and runs through August 19, 2024. Due to July 20th falling on a Saturday, the first date to submit one’s registration application will be on Monday, July 22, 2024 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the EPISD Business & Finance Director Office and continue through Monday, August 19, 2024 until 5 p.m.

Re-elected in the 2022 Board of Trustees election unopposed were Board Vice-President Hilda P. Martinez, Victor E. Perry, and Lupita Fuentes. They were reelected to a four year term from November 2022 to November 2026.
Several persons have expressed interest in registering as a candidate for the EPISD Board of Trustees election scheduled on November 5, 2024, in addition to the current four incumbents whom are expected to seek reelection.
Early voting period will commence on Monday, October 21, 2024 through November 1, 2024 at the City of Eagle Pass Multi-Purpose Center and regular Election Day is on Tuesday, November 5, 2024 at designated Maverick County Precinct polling places.
