Ruben Montemayor and Cecy Maldonado Win in Maverick County Democratic Party Primary Run-Off Election held on May 28, 2024

Maverick County, Texas Election Judge Enriqueta V. Collett announced at approximately 5 a.m. on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, the unofficial results of the Maverick County Democratic Party Primary Run-Off election after having done a manual count of the ballots due to the electronic ballot tabulation machine breaking down early in the evening of Tuesday, May 28th, while attempting to do the ballot count of the early voting period ballots.
In the county-wide race for Maverick County Tax Assessor-Collector, incumbent Asalia Casares was defeated by challenger Ruben Montemayor with Montemayor garnering 1,338 votes compared to Casares’ 1,028 votes, a margin of 310 votes victory by Montemayor.
For Maverick County Constable Precinct No. 1 race, incumbent Cecy Maldonado defeated challenger Ignacio Vasquez, Jr. with Maldonado receiving 501 votes compared to Vasquez’s 357 votes, a difference of 144 votes in favor of Maldonado. Maldonado will now face Republican Party nominee Pedro “Pete” Hernandez for the position of Constable Precinct No. 1 in the Texas General Election on November 5, 2024.
Approximately 2,500 Maverick County voters cast a ballot in the May 28, 2024 Maverick County Democratic Party Primary Run-Off Election out of more than 34,000 registered voters, a dismal seven (7%) percent of registered voters determining these two important races.
The candidates and their supporters, election officials, and voters experienced initially a hot warm cloudy day that later developed into a hot day with scorching heat of over 100 degrees Fahrenheit and closing out with a severe thunderstorm with heavy rain, lighting, and strong “derecho” winds gusting over 60 miles per hour during the May 28, 2024 primary run-off election.
