Neither a severe thunderstorm and strong “derecho” winds of over 60 miles per hour deterred the counting of the Maverick County, Texas Republican Party Primary Run-Off Election results on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, with a total of 347 ballots cast in the election featuring incumbent Congressman Tony Gonzales and challenger Brandon Herrera for the Republican Party nomination for the Texas 23rd Congressional District race.
During the counting of the early election ballots cast during May 21-24, 2024, the Maverick County electronic ballot tabulation machine experienced technical difficulties and malfunctioning on Tuesday, May 28th.
Since there were only 347 ballots cast, the ballots were manually counted by hand and the results were made available to the public and news media at approximately 10:25 p.m. with incumbent Tony Gonzales garnering 195 votes compared to Brandon Herrera’s 152 votes in Maverick County, Texas. This was the only race on the Republican Party Primary Run-Off election in Maverick County during the May 28, 2024 run-off.
