After the electronic ballot tabulation machine broke down on the evening of the election of May 28, 2024 and a severe thunderstorm unleashed heavy rain and lightning, accompanied by strong “Derecho” wind gusts of up to 60 miles per hour, the Maverick County, Texas Democratic Primary Run-Off Election Early Voting Results had to be manually counted with the first tally coming in at 3:22 a.m., according to Election Judge Enriqueta V. Collett.
For the Maverick County Tax Assessor-Collector position, incumbent Asalia Casares received 638 votes compared to challenger Ruben Montemayor’s 915 votes. Montemayor takes a 277 vote advantage with the Election Day vote tally pending until later this morning when they are manually counted and announced.
In the Maverick County Constable Precinct No. 1 race, incumbent Constable Cecy Maldonado garnered 335 votes in Early Voting compared to challenger Ignacio Vasquez, Jr.’s 228 votes, an advantage of 107 votes pending the Election Day tally.
Absent an unprecedented strong showing on Election Day of May 28, 2024 by Asalia Casares and Ignacio Vasquez, Jr., it appears that in all probability Ruben Montemayor may upset Casares for Maverick County Tax Assessor-Collector while Maldonado will successfully defend her Constable Precinct No. 2 position over Vasquez.
The final unofficial May 28, 2024 Election results will not be made available until later in the morning of Wednesday, May 29th.
