Maverick County Hospital District Offering New Programs in April 2024, Hires New Public Relations Director

The Maverick County Hospital District (MCHD) announced two new programs being offered during April 2024 and other news in the local hospital district, including the hiring of a new public relations director, at a press conference held on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at the district conference room.
MCHD Chief Executive Officer Alma Martinez kicked-off the press conference introducing the newly hired Public Relations Director, Karen Salinas, whom will be responsible for all public relations and marketing for the hospital district as well as promoting all healthcare services offered at the public health institution. Salinas is a graduate of the University of Puerto Vallarta and previously worked at a local real estate agency.
Salinas followed with the announcement of the hospital district’s “Dia Del Nino” Celebration that will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2024, from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the City of Eagle Pass San Juan Plaza Park in downtown Eagle Pass, offering games, activities, arts and crafts, raffles, gifts such as over 80 new bicycles, and food and refreshments will be available. The “Dia Del Nino” Celebration is open to all children in the community and admission is totally free.
MCHD Medical Clinic Manager Lissette Salinas stated the District is hosting the second annual “Dia Del Nino” Celebration in honor of National Child Abuse Prevention Month during April 2024 and all children are invited to attend and enjoy the festivities.
MCHD Ryan White HIV/Aids Program Director Marcos Trevino announced a new program, Texas Infertility Prevention Program (TIPP), being offered by the District as a result of a new grant received for Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI). Trevino stated the District is now offering free testing for chlamydia and gonorrhea to the public at its new Social Services Building located behind the District Administration at 3406 Bob Rogers Drive. The STI tests for chlamydia and gonorrhea are totally free to the public as part of this new TIPP program. In addition, free condoms and literature concerning sexually transmitted diseases are available at the Ryan White HIV/Aids Program Office in the new Social Services Building during Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Trevino noted that all services and testing offered by the District’s Ryan White Program are open to the public and strictly confidential. All interested persons may schedule an appointment by calling the District at (830) 757-4937 or walk-in to the office.
MCHD CEO Alma Martinez noted that Dr. Crone, Urologist, had left the District and efforts are underway to hire a new urologist as well as other physicians in other specialties for the benefit of the community. Martinez added that two new physicians have been contracted and will soon commence in May 2024, including Dr. Chakira, a urologist from Austin, Texas, and an endocrinologist, Dr. Garza, from San Antonio, Texas. Martinez added the District is continuing to work with Dr. Miranda, an oncologist, from Laredo, Texas. She noted a new physician is being recruited for the MCHD’s Urgent Care Center. Martinez invited all Maverick County residents to use the healthcare services of the MCHD and all its programs.
