Hundreds of people from Eagle Pass and around the world flocked to downtown Eagle Pass, Texas on Thursday, February 29, 2024, to catch a fleeting glimpse of former President Donald J. Trump during his three hour visit to the City of Eagle Pass-owned public park named Shelby Park to discuss the current immigration situation on the southern United States border together with Governor Greg Abbott.
People from Italy, Netherlands, Mexico, Canada, and from Arizona, Indiana, Oklahoma, California, and from such cities as San Antonio, Corpus Christi, Del Rio, Dallas, Houston, Austin, and Eagle Pass flocked onto Main Street and Commercial Street in downtown Eagle Pass seeking to catch a glimpse of Trump, but unfortunately they were unable to see him due to his detailed-security whisked him through South Monroe Street to the Camino Real International Bridge Port of Entry and eventually into Shelby Park.
The hundreds of people were disappointed not being able to see Trump as they had been waiting for three to four hours along downtown Eagle Pass streets to catch a fleeting glimpse of him.
The atmosphere in downtown Eagle Pass was like that of a parade with red, white, and blue flags, banners, posters, hats, sombreros, and Trump flags and caps all over. The crowd was festive, but quickly dispersed after learning that Trump had slipped passed them through another route along the Camino Real International Bridge Port of Entry.
