With the upcoming 57 South Music Fest and Total Solar Eclipse events quickly approaching during April 5-8, 2024, the City of Eagle Pass, Texas Economic Development Department held on Thursday, March 14th, one of two Town Hall Meetings at the Eagle Pass Arts and Culture Center, 364 Main Street, in preparation for the Total Solar Eclipse happening on April 8th in Eagle Pass.
Spearheaded by the City’s Economic Development Department, City representatives presented safety tips and measures for businesses to get prepared for the Total Solar Eclipse. Eagle Pass Economic Development Director, Arturo Marquez, said the community should expect thousands of visitors and tourists starting on the weekend leading up to the solar eclipse, April 5-7.
Local businesses with high traffic such as Wagon Wheel, Burger King, Takitos con Sabor de Chavarria, and downtown merchants were present at the town hall meeting held on March 14th and provided valuable input to City officials. Traffic is expected to increase starting on April 5th as the City kicks off the 57 South Music Festival, a partnership between the Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino and the City of Eagle Pass.
The Eagle Pass Police Department and the Emergency Operations Center representatives were present at the town hall meeting and talked about traffic, safety, communication, and emergency response during the long weekend of April 5-7. First responders will be available throughout the events, but the Police Department encourages the public and businesses to contact the proper agencies in case of an emergency to ensure proper use of resources.
“The City of Eagle Pass is the first city in the United States to witness the eclipse, making it ground zero for eclipse followers,” Marquez said. “The region can benefit from this by showcasing what Eagle Pass can offer to future investors,” added Marquez.
The City will host a second Town Hall Meeting for the public and local businesses regarding the 57 South Music Festival and the Total Solar Eclipse on Thursday, March 28th, and will broadcast it live through the City’s Facebook Page, but business owners and residents are still encouraged to attend in person. The second town hall meeting on March 28th will also be held at the Eagle Pass Art and Culture Center, 364 Main Street, in downtown Eagle Pass.
