Alfonso Mallen Named Citizen of the Year by Eagle Pass Chamber of Commerce

The Eagle Pass Chamber of Commerce celebrated its 94th Annual Banquet on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at the Eagle Pass International Center for Trade in Eagle Pass, Texas, bestowing the organization’s highest honor of Citizen of the Year to longtime youth promoter and counselor, Alfonso Mallen of the Eagle Pass Youth Center.
Eagle Pass Chamber of Commerce Board of Director Dr. Claudia Wright announced the nominees for the Citizen of the Year Award as Catrina Purcell, local attorney and founder of Eagle Pass HEROES; Elias Diaz, a licensed counselor and founder of Eagle Pass S.A.F.E.; Enriqueta Diaz-Hale, former Maverick County Judge and local community volunteer; and Alfonso Mallen, Director of Eagle Pass Youth Center.
Dr. Wright noted the decision for the selection committed had been difficult with such an outstanding group of nominees, but the committee chose to bestow the Citizen of the Year Award to Alfonso Mallen for his dedication and service to the youth in the community for many years.
Accepting the Citizen of the Year Award for Alfonso Mallen, who was unable to attend the banquet, was Eagle Pass Mayor Rolando Salinas, Jr.
All of the nominees received a plaque and certificate for their nomination as Citizen of the Year.
Banquet attendees gave a rousing applause to each of the nominees as they were presented at the banquet.
Alfonso Mallen will now serve as Citizen of the Year and earned the honor of being the Parade Marshal of the 2024 Eagle Pass International Friendship Festival.
