Texas W.I.C. Director Edgar Curtis Visits United Medical Centers W.I.C. Program

United Medical Centers Women, Infants, and Children (W. I. C.) Supplemental Nutrition Program Director Lupita Fuentes welcomed and hosted Texas W. I. C. Program Director Edgar Curtis, Texas W. I. C. Program Director of Nutrition Education and Clinic Services Amanda Hovis, and Texas W. I. C. Program Clinic Services Branch Manager for the Nutrition and Clinical Services Rachel Edwards to Eagle Pass, Texas on Thursday, February 15, 2024.
Curtis and his executive staff visited Eagle Pass for the first time to observe UMC’s W. I. C. Program clinic services, operations, delivery of services, and counseling services to W. I. C. clients.
Curtis stated he was impressed with the UMC W. I. C. Program and its facilities as well as the delivery of services and counseling to clients. He noted the outstanding services provided at the UMC W. I. C. Program.
Fuentes thanked Curtis, Hovis, and Edwards for visiting Eagle Pass and the UMC W. I. C. Program and the support they provide to the hundreds of clients in Maverick County. She noted that the W. I. C. Supplemental Nutrition Program is the first program that touches and improves the lives of young infants and children in Maverick County through its Supplemental Nutrition program.
Maverick County Judge Ramsey English Cantu welcomed Curtis, Hovis, and Edwards to Maverick County and thanked them for their support of the women, infants, and children in the community through the W. I. C. Program Supplemental Nutrition Program.
Eagle Pass Independent School District Superintendent Samuel Mijares stated the UMC W. I. C. Program was instrumental and responsible for school children receiving a balanced nutrition program since a young age and preparing them for their education.
Eagle Pass Independent School District Board of Trustees President Jorge Barrera stated the UMC W. I. C. Program under the leadership of Fuentes was an exemplary program in the community.
Eagle Pass City Council Member Mario E. Garcia stated as the local school district food service director he personally can attest to the invaluable role the UMC W. I. C. Program plays in the community and contributes to healthy infants and children in the school system.
Also attending the meet and greet reception for Curtis and his executive staff included Eagle Pass Independent School District Board of Trustee Hilda P. Martinez and UMC’s Mario Pola and Lucia Rosas.
Following a brief press conference, Curtis and his executive team were treated to a reception with refreshments and pastries.
