Eagle Pass Winn Mavericks Realigned to District 14-5A, Division I for Football and District 28-5A for All Other Sports

Every two years, Texas high school administrators, athletic directors, band directors, and coaches sweat it out during the Texas University Interscholastic League (U.I.L.) biennial realignment announcement during the first week of February. This year was no exception.
Eagle Pass C. C. Winn High School Athletics Campus Coordinator and Head Football Coach Eric Villasenor announced that the Mavericks had been realigned to District 14-5A, Division I for football with one new district member, the San Antonio John Jay Mustangs, and to District 28-5A for all other sports and U.I.L. competitions such as band and academics.
Joining District 14-5A, Division I for football during 2024-2026 are the Eagle Pass Winn Mavericks, the San Antonio John Jay Mustangs, San Antonio Southwest Dragons, San Antonio Southwest Legacy Titans, San Antonio Southside Cardinals, South San Antonio Bobcats, Laredo Cigarroa Toros, Laredo Martin Tigers, and Laredo Nixon Mustangs.
For all other sports and U.I.L. activities, the Winn Mavericks will remain in District 28-5A with San Antonio John Jay Mustangs, San Antonio MacArthur Brahmas, San Antonio Harlandale Indians, San Antonio McCollum Cowboys, San Antonio Southside Cardinals, San Antonio Southwest Dragons, San Antonio Southwest Legacy Titans, and South San Antonio Bobcats.
Villasenor stated he was pleasantly surprised to learn San Antonio John Jay and San Antonio MacArthur were added to District 28-5A for all other sports and the San Antonio John Jay Mustangs to District 14-5A, Division I for football, but he welcomed them to the newly realigned Districts. He added the Winn Mavericks looked forward to participating in the two newly realigned districts in all sports and events.
As of press time, the Eagle Pass Business Journal was unable to obtain a copy of the tentative Mavericks football schedule for 2024.
