Texas high school athletic directors, head coaches, and assistant coaches fretted for a moment on Thursday, February 1, 2024, as the Texas University Interscholastic League (U.I.L.) announced its biennial realignment of high schools for the 2024-2026 biennium.
Eagle Pass High School Eagles Athletics Campus Coordinator and Head Football Coach Tom Gonzalez announced that the Eagles are remaining in District 30-6A with the same teams as the previous two years with the addition of the growing Castroville-Medina Valley High School Panthers to the newly realigned District 30-6A for the next two school years (2024-2026).
Gonzalez stated the District 30-6A teams will include the Eagle Pass Eagles, Del Rio Rams, Laredo United Longhorns, Laredo United South Panthers, Laredo Alexander Bulldogs, Laredo Johnson Wolves, and Castroville-Medina Valley Panthers.
The newly realigned District 30-6A for 2024-2026 will be for all sports and U.I.L. activities and extracurricular events such as band, academics, and others.
During the February 1, 2024 U.I.L. announcement meeting, Gonzalez met with his District 30-6A cohorts and other Texas coaches to work out a schedule for the upcoming 2024 Football season.
Tentatively, the Eagle Pass Eagles are scheduled to play in 2024 scrimmages against the San Antonio Marshall Rams and Laredo Martin Tigers before the regular season kicks-off with their annual cross-town rivalry game against the C. C. Winn Mavericks in a non-district game during week one, followed by another non-district game against the San Antonio Taft Raiders in week two, are still looking for an opponent for week three, followed by a non-district game against the New Braunfels Canyon Cougars in week four, a District game against the Medina Valley Panthers in week five, an Open date during week six, a District game against the Laredo Johnson Wolves in week seven, a District game against the Laredo Alexander Bulldogs in week eight, another District game against the Laredo United Longhorns in week nine, a District game against the Laredo United South Panthers in week ten, and the regular season finale in a District clash with the Del Rio Rams during week eleven.
Gonzalez stated he and the Eagle Pass High School coaches and administrators are pleased with the Eagles realignment for the following two years and look forward to competing against the burgeoning Castroville-Medina Valley Panthers as well as all District 30-6A schools.
