Eagle Pass City Council Invites 12 Applicants for City Manager Interviews

The City of Eagle Pass, Texas City Council finally narrowed the list of 46 applicants for the vacant City Manager position to 12 applicants whom have been invited for interviews after taking 18 months to prioritize the hiring of the top City management official at their regular meeting held on Tuesday, January 2, 2024.
Former City Manager George Antuna abruptly resigned from his position on August 9, 2022 following an Executive Session concerning evaluation of his services.
Assistant City Manager Ivan Morua was promoted to Interim City Manager pending the hiring of a permanent City Manager at the August 9, 2022 City Council meeting, which he has held until the moment—a total of 18 months.
The City Council went into Executive Session on January 2, 2024 to review the 46 applicants and select 12 for job interviews as part of the selection process. The City Secretary Imelda Rodriguez is contacting these 12 individuals to notify them of their selection for interview and whether they are still interested in the vacant City Manager position since it has been 18 months since many of them applied.
The City Council led by Mayor Rolando Salinas, Jr. did not specify a timeline by which they will complete the interviews and final selection process of a new permanent City Manager, but did note that time is of the essence.
The City of Eagle Pass is in the midst of exponential growth and economic development while facing salient issues such as an undocumented migrant surge, loss of revenues due to the temporary suspension of its international bridge no. 1 and the Union Pacific international railroad bridge, extensive commercial motor vehicle safety inspections at the Port of Eagle Pass by the Texas Department of Public Safety, the militarization of its public park and municipal golf course, the proposed establishment of two city-owned governmental entities to benefit a private industrial park development, urban planning issues, public infrastructure issues, and fiscal responsibility matters.
