Eagle Pass Pioneer Ophthalmic Surgeon Dr. Carlos E. Rodriguez Passes Away

Eagle Pass native and pioneer Ophthalmic surgeon, Dr. Carlos E. Rodriguez, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 28, 2023, in San Antonio, Texas with his loved ones at his bedside, culminating a distinguished career as an Ophthalmologist, public servant, community volunteer, father, grandfather, husband, and Good Samaritan.
Born and raised in Eagle Pass, Texas, Dr. Rodriguez rose from humble beginnings to becoming a prominent eye surgeon and distinguished public service career as Chairman of the Maverick County Hospital District Board of Directors.
Dr. Rodriguez founded Southwest Texas Eyecare Associates in Eagle Pass, Texas, becoming the first eye surgery center in Eagle Pass and the Middle Rio Grande region. He went on to found Southwest Texas Optical, Inc. in Eagle Pass, opening two locations to serve the eye vision needs of Eagle Pass and the Middle Rio Grande region patients.
Dr. Rodriguez served for more than 31 years as Ophthalmologist before retiring and passing the torch of Southwest Texas Eyecare Associates to his daughter, Dr. Priscilla Rodriguez Heredia, in 2015 while remaining as President and Chief Executive Officer of said professional business. He also founded Southwest Texas Optical, Inc. and passed its management to his son, Carlos E. Rodriguez, II.
Funeral arrangements for Dr. Rodriguez are under the direction of Yeager Barrera Mortuary, 1613 Del Rio Blvd., Eagle Pass, Texas 78852, Telephone (830) 773-3121.
Public viewing will be held on Friday, December 29, 2023, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Yeager Barrera Mortuary.
Mass will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church at 10 a.m. in Eagle Pass, Texas.
Eagle Passans mourn the death of Dr. Rodriguez as he was an extraordinary human being and eye surgeon totally dedicated to his patients and community. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, associates, and the community.
