City of Eagle Pass Celebrates Groundbreaking Ceremony of New Neighborhood Park

The City of Eagle Pass, Texas celebrated the groundbreaking ceremony of its new neighborhood park on Thursday, December 7, 2023, to be constructed at the Villa Romel Subdivision on Town Square Boulevard, near Armando Cerna Elementary School, amid a gorgeous Fall-season, sunny blue skies day in the border community.
Eagle Pass Marketing Director Aide Castano, acting as Mistress of Ceremony, welcomed all the guests to the groundbreaking ceremony.
Eagle Pass Mayor Rolando Salinas, Jr. was the keynote speaker at the ceremony, stating it was a great day for the City of Eagle Pass with the groundbreaking of a new neighborhood park designed to improve the quality of life. Salinas noted the new park is almost 1.5 acres and will feature activities for citizens of all ages, including a walking trail. Salinas thanked the City Administration for their foresight and vision in developing this new city park, the first east of Veterans Boulevard. Salinas thanked the Eagle Pass Independent School District, Maverick County Hospital District, the contractor of the project, Frontera Construction, and local citizens for their presence at the ceremony.
Eagle Pass Interim City Manager Ivan Morua stated the purpose of the park is to improve the quality of life of all citizens of Eagle Pass. Morua thanked the City Council and Mayor Salinas for their approval of the project and the architect and contractor that will be developing the park on behalf of the city.
Eagle Pass Parks and Recreation Director Jorge Sanchez stated the new park will be beneficial to the city because as it grows there is a need for additional recreational and green spaces for citizens to enjoy. Sanchez thanked Mayor Salinas and the City Council for their support of the new park.
Following the statements, a formal groundbreaking of the first shovel of dirt to start the construction was held with Mayor Rolando Salinas, Jr., Mayor Pro-Tem William Davis, Interim City Manager Ivan Morua, Parks and Recreation Director Jorge Sanchez, Eagle Pass Independent School District Board of Trustees Jorge Barrera and Christopher Hiller, City Engineer Dan Magee, Frontera Construction representative, Ardurra representative, and others participating.
Also present at the ceremony was Rebecca Robinson, Vice-President of the Maverick County Hospital District Board of Directors.
The new park does not have a name yet, but a name will be selected by the City Council in the future. The park is expected to be completed in 2024, whereupon a grand opening and naming ceremony will be held.
