Eagles and Mavericks Kicked-Off 2023 Football Season Practices on July 31st

The Eagle Pass High School Eagles and C. C. Winn High School Mavericks officially kicked-off the 2023 Texas high school football season on Monday, July 31, 2023, with the opening of two-a-day practices at their respective campuses.
The Eagles will compete in District 30-6A under the leadership of Head Coach Tom Gonzalez while the Mavericks will compete in District 14-5A, Division I under the tutelage of Head Coach Eric Villasenor.
Both teams will play several scrimmages before the start of the regular 2023 season. The Eagles are scheduled to scrimmage against San Antonio Marshall Rams on August 11, 2023 and Laredo Martin Tigers on August 17th. The Mavericks are scheduled to scrimmage against the Carrizo Springs Wildcats on August 11, 2023 and against Del Rio Rams and Fort Stockton Panthers on August 18th.
Both teams renew their annual rivalry football game to start the 2023 regular season on Friday, August 25, 2023, at 7 p.m. in the 17th Annual Rivalry Game at the Eagle Pass Independent School District Cozel Foster-Veterans Memorial Stadium in Eagle Pass, Texas. The Mavericks will be the home team this year.
The Eagles are scheduled to play at home against the San Marcos Rattlers on September 22, the Laredo LBJ Wolves on October 20, and the Del Rio Rams on November 2.
The Eagles schedule is dominated by away games against the Winn Mavericks on August 25, the Boerne Champion Chargers on September 1, the Corpus Christi Moody Trojans on September 7 at Jourdanton, Texas, the Edinburg North Cougars on September 15 at Alice, Texas, the Laredo Alexander Bulldogs on October 5, the Laredo United Longhorns on October 14, and the Laredo United South Panthers on October 26.
The Mavericks have home games against the Eagle Pass Eagles on August 25, the Uvalde Coyotes on September 1, the San Antonio Southwest Dragons on September 21, the San Antonio South San Bobcats on October 6, the San Antonio Southwest Legacy Titans on October 19, and the San Antonio Southside Cardinals on November 3.
The Mavericks away games are against the Laredo Nixon Mustangs on September 15, the Medina Valley Panthers on September 29, the Laredo Cigarroa Toros on October 13, and the Laredo Martin Tigers on October 27.
All student athletes are required to have completed a physical exam and turned in to the head trainer at each school on or before July 31 to be eligible to start practicing.
