Eagle Pass Police Department Chief Federico Garza held a press conference on Monday, February 6, 2023, to provide an update regarding the investigation of the missing Eagle Pass woman, Evelyn Guardado, age 24.
Garza reported the Eagle Pass Police Department is investigating the disappearance of Evelyn Guardado together with other law enforcement agencies, including, but not limited to, the Texas Rangers, U. S. Border Patrol, Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), Eagle Pass Independent School District Police Department, U. S. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), U. S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), U. S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and Mexican law enforcement agencies.
Garza stated the Eagle Pass Police Department is investigating to locate the body or person of Evelyn Guardado who disappeared on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 in Eagle Pass, Texas. Garza added that the longer the investigation takes, the higher the probability of not finding Guardado alive. He noted that they hope she will be found alive.
Garza added that the Eagle Pass Police Department arrested Jesus Vasquez, age 34, for the unauthorized use of a motor vehicle due to his use of the automobile of Evelyn Guardado, moving the vehicle to an apartment complex in an attempt to hide the vehicle, and had the keys to the vehicle in his possession.
Garza noted that Vasquez is the primary suspect in the investigation and was a co-worker of Guardado at the Eagle Pass Detention Facility-Geo. Vasquez posted bond on the charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and was released from the Maverick County Tom Bowles Detention Center. Vasquez has retained an attorney to represent him.
Garza reported that allegedly Guardado left work from Eagle Pass Detention Facility-Geo and gave a friend a ride to her residence prior to her disappearance on January 31.
Garza noted that Guardado had an address in Eagle Pass, but is believed to have had another residence in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico and traveled back and forth between Eagle Pass and Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico.
Garza reported a search warrant was executed upon a residence located in the 800 block of Buena Vista Drive in Eagle Pass as part of the investigation.
Garza reported law enforcement agencies are interviewing all friends of and persons who knew Evelyn Guardado as part of the investigation.
The case is under investigation by the Eagle Pass Police Department in collaboration with the multiple law enforcement agencies cited.
