2023 Maverick County Jr. Livestock Show Opens January 17-21 in Eagle Pass, Texas

The highly anticipated 2023 Maverick County Junior Livestock Show and Sale opens on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 and runs through Saturday, January 21, 2023 with the grand finale Sale of the show animals, dedication ceremony, and presentation of the Top 10 Buyers of the 2022 MCJLS Sale, announced Roberto Martinez, President of the Maverick County Junior Livestock Show Association.
“We like to invite the public to come out and join us at the Maverick County Junior Livestock Show and Sale to support the youth of Maverick County with their animal projects and all local businesses, entrepreneurs, individuals, and organizations to register as a Buyer and purchase the animals our 4-H and FFA members have been working with during the past year,” added Martinez.
The 2023 MCJLS kicks off on Tuesday, January 17, at 9 a.m. with the moving in, weighing and sifting of all Market Rabbits and Meat Pens and the Judging of Market Rabbits and Meat Pens.
On January 17 immediately after the Rabbit Show, all the Market Broiler and Broiler Pen will be weighed, sifted, and judged, and after the Market Broiler and Broiler Pen Show, all of the Market Goats will be weighed, sifted, and judged with the Market Goat Grand Champion and Showmanship Award selected and announced, providing a full day’s worth of fun and activities.
On Wednesday, January 18, the MCJLS will start at 9 a.m. with the moving in, weighing, and sifting of Market Lambs followed by the judging of Market Lambs, culminating with the selection and announcement of the Grand Champion Market Lamb and Showmanship Award.
On Thursday, January 19, the MCJLS starts again at 9 a.m. with the moving in, weighing, and sifting of Market Swine followed by the judging of Market Swine, finishing with the selection and announcement of the Grand Champion Market Swine and Showmanship Award.
On Friday, January 20, the MCJLS starts again at 9 a.m. with the moving in, weighing, and sifting of Market Steers followed by the judging of Market Steers, culminating with the selection and announcement of the Grand Champion Market Steer and Showmanship Award.
On Saturday, January 21, the MCJLS starts at 10:30 a.m. with the Dedication Ceremony and Recognition of the Top 10 Buyers of the 2022 Show followed by the opening of the 2023 Show Sale starting with the Grand and Reserve Champions through and until the last animal is sold.
During January 17-21, the MCJLS will have many fun activities, food, refreshments, and many vendors selling jewelry, clothing, hats, boots, purses, and other goods and commodities for the general public. The MCJLS is a family entertainment event and admission to the five day show is totally free and open to the public. Y’all come on down and have a great time at the 2023 MCJLS.
