Border Patrol BORSTAR Dive Team Recovers Body of Eagle Pass Water Works Employee
The lifeless body of former Eagle Pass Water Works System Lab Technician employee Rodolfo “Rudy” Lara, age 26, was located and recovered by the U. S. Border Patrol Del Río Sector BORSTAR Dive Team, in collaboration with the Eagle Pass Fire Department Rescue Team, at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 22, 2022, inside an approximate two acre size water reserve tank within the City of Eagle Pass Roberto Gonzalez Regional Water Treatment Plant in Eagle Pass, Texas.
A Maverick County Justice of the Peace pronounced Lara deceased at 1:44 p.m. on Thursday, December 22, 2022, ordering an autopsy be done by the Webb County Coroners Office in Laredo, Texas to determine the cause of death.
The Eagle Pass Business Journal obtained two new aerial photographs of the City of Eagle Pass Roberto Gonzalez Regional Water Treatment Plant showing the large water reserve tank in which Lara fell into and drowned on Wednesday, December 21, 2022. The water treatment plant and water reserve tank are immediately adjacent to the Rio Grande River straddling the U. S.-Mexico border.
The water reserve tank Lara’s body was recovered from has a depth between 18-22 feet and holds 25 million gallons of water, including five to six feet of mud accumulated at the bottom of the tank which made it difficult to locate and recover the body of Lara. The water had to be drained from the reserve water tank to allow the divers locate and recover the body.
