The City of Eagle Pass Economic Development Department Director Arturo Marquez, Downtown Eagle Pass Manager Zenaida Rodriguez, and Mario Pena of Able City unveiled the proposed Downtown Master Plan at the City Council meeting held on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, featuring an overview presentation of the Downtown Master Plan to City Council.
The Eagle Pass Downtown Master Plan started in October 2021 and after 12 months of meetings and a survey with residents, businesses, retail shoppers and tourists, a Master Plan was developed to create an aesthetic, active, vibrant and safe downtown environment. The Master Plan intends to increase the economic attractiveness and viability of Downtown Eagle Pass, while preserving the history and heritage of Eagle Pass.
The Downtown Master Plan focuses on Land Use and Zoning, Mobility and Infrastructure, Wayfinding and Beautification, Economic Development, Housing, Arts and Culture, and Historic Preservation. The goal is to turn Downtown Eagle Pass into a friendly pedestrian retail, entertainment, tourist, and an open place to walk, shop, live, enjoy, and visit for the entire family.
Local residents participating in a survey in what they wanted to see and have in Downtown Eagle Pass replied the addition of entertainment, a variety of businesses, improvement and reuse of public buildings and plazas, and promotion of the Arts and Cultural events.
The proposed Downtown Master Plan will be presented again to the City Council and the public on Thursday, October 13, 2022, at 5:30 p.m. at a Special City Council Meeting open to the entire public. The City Council will discuss the proposed Downtown Master Plan and may take possible action to approve, amend, or disapprove the plan.
The initial presentation of the Downtown Master Plan is available for viewing by the public at the City of Eagle Pass Facebook Page video recording of the October 4, 2022 City Council Meeting.
All interested persons, businesses, and stakeholders are encouraged to attend the next presentation of the proposed Downtown Master Plan on Thursday, October 14, at the Special City Council Meeting.
