With the 2022 Texas high school football season starting on Monday, August 1, 2022 as student-athletes report for practice, Eagle Pass High School Eagles Head Football Coach Tom Gonzalez announced the Eagles 2022 schedule.
University Interscholastic League (UIL)-sanctioned practices commence on August 1, 2022 for teams who did not have a Spring program and on August 8 for teams that held a Spring program. The Eagles start on August 1.
The Eagles will again compete in District 30-6A against the Del Rio Rams, Laredo Alexander Bulldogs, Laredo United Longhorns, Laredo LBJ Wolves, and Laredo United South Panthers. Last year, the Laredo United South Panthers edged the Eagles for the District Championship.
The Eagles will play two scrimmages before opening the regular season. They will scrimmage the San Antonio Marshall Rams on Friday, August 12 in San Antonio, Texas at a time and site to be determined. The second scrimmage is against the Laredo Martin Tigers on Thursday, August 18 at 7 p.m. at Shirley Field in Laredo, Texas.
The Eagles kick-off the 2022 regular season with a non-district game against cross-town rival, C. C. Winn Mavericks, on Friday, August 26 at 7:00 p.m. at the Cozel Foster-Memorial Veterans Stadium in Eagle Pass. This season opening game will be highly competitive and sold out with over 8,500 fans.
The second game is another non-district tilt against powerhouse Boerne Champion Chargers on Friday, September 2 at 7:00 p.m. at Cozel Foster-Memorial Veterans Stadium in Eagle Pass. This game is designated as Parents Night and may be a high scoring affair between two great offensive teams.
The third game is a non-district game against the Corpus Christi Moody Trojans on Friday, September 9 at 7:00 p.m. at a neutral site at Jourdanton High School Football Stadium in Jourdanton, Texas. This game will certainly be interesting.
The fourth game is a non-district game against the Edinburg North Cougars on Thursday, September 15 at 7 p.m. at a neutral site at the Laredo Student Activity Center in Laredo. This game will be a battle between the Rio Grande Valley versus the Middle Rio Grande Border.
The fifth game is another non-district game against the San Marcos Rattlers on Friday, September 23 at 7 p.m. in San Marcos, Texas. This game will feature a Central Texas versus Border clash.
Following a tough five game non-district schedule, the Eagles will enjoy an Open Week during September 26-30, 2022 before opening District 30-6A play.
The sixth game is against District 30-6A rival Laredo Alexander Bulldogs on Friday, October 7 at 7:00 p.m. at Cozel Foster-Memorial Veterans Stadium in Eagle Pass. This game will be a key District 30-6A game as both teams are contenders for the District crown. This game has been designated as Homecoming 2022.
The seventh game is against District 30-6A nemesis Laredo United Longhorns on Friday, October 14 at 7:00 p.m. at Cozel Foster-Memorial Veterans Stadium in Eagle Pass. This game promises to be a high scoring affair.
The eighth game is against District 30-6A rival Laredo LBJ Wolves on Friday, October 21 at 7:00 p.m. at the Laredo Student Activity Center in Laredo. This game may be a defensive battle against the Wolves ground attack.
The ninth game is against last year’s District 30-6A champion Laredo United South Panthers on Thursday, October 27 at 7:00 p.m. at Cozel Foster-Veterans Memorial Stadium in Eagle Pass. This game might be for the District Championship in a rock’em, sock’em classic.
The tenth and final regular season game is against long-time arch rival Del Rio Rams in a key District 30-6A showdown on Friday, November 4 at 7:00 p.m. at Del Rio, Texas. This game will have playoff implications.
The Eagles goal is to regain the District 30-6A Championship in 2022 and advance deep into the state playoffs.
