Dimmit County Sheriff Marion Boyd Arrested By Texas Rangers
According to a Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) statement, Dimmit County Sheriff Marion Boyd was arrested by the Texas Rangers on Wednesday, March 2, 2022.
The DPS statement added that “as this is an active and ongoing investigation by the Rangers, no additional information is available at this time.”
Boyd was arrested for allegedly stalking, tampering with a witness, and tampering with evidence felony charges, according to Court documents.
All persons arrested and charged with a criminal offense are presumed innocent until proven guilty or plead guilty in a court at law.
Boyd has been Dimmit County Sheriff since 2013, which includes Carrizo Springs, Asherton, and Big Wells.
News of Sheriff Boyd’s arrest quickly spread throughout the community, stunning Dimmit County citizens upon learning of the news.
Boyd, age 41, is from Big Wells, Texas within Dimmit County.
Dimmit County has a population of 8,615, according to the 2020 U. S. Census. The county seat is Carrizo Springs, Texas, where the Dimmit County Sheriff’s Department Office and County Jail are located.
Dimmit County is located in rural Southwest Texas, near the United States-Mexico border. Dimmit County has a total area of 1,335 square miles. Dimmit County’s economy includes oil and gas, ranching, cattle raising, agriculture, farming, deer hunting, transportation, and public government.
In recent years, Dimmit County has seen a significant increase of drug smuggling, human trafficking of undocumented immigrants, and smuggling of firearms due to its large land size, major transportation highways within the county, and close proximity to the U.S.-Mexico border.
The case remains under investigation by the Texas Rangers.
