A 24 year-old young woman from Eagle Pass, Texas who was shot in the head by her boyfriend died from her wound on Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at a medical hospital in San Antonio, announced Maverick County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Roberto De Leon.
On Monday, January 31, 2022, Maverick County Sheriff’s Department received a 911 telephone call regarding a family disturbance and shots fired in a home on Casales Road in southern Eagle Pass. Upon arriving, Deputy Sheriffs found a young woman lying on the floor with a firearm wound to the head. The victim was rushed to Fort Duncan Regional Medical Center by the Eagle Pass Fire Department EMS Ambulance and later airlifted to a San Antonio medical center for treatment.
An Eagle Pass male individual, Ricardo Guerra, age 31, was arrested as a suspect in the shooting of the young woman after attempting to run and flee from the scene of the incident. Guerra was detained and at that time charged with evading arrest and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
De Leon stated that Guerra’s charges have now been upgraded to murder as a result of the tragic death of the young woman and a bond in the amount of $1.2 million has been set on Guerra by a magistrate judge.
De Leon noted that the alleged weapon used to shoot the young woman has not been located by officers investigating the case, but a 9 millimeter caliber firearm was used according to evidence found in the home.
De Leon added that a total of 12 firearms were confiscated at the residence of the incident in question, including some that are reported stolen with other Texas law enforcement agencies.
An individual arrested and charged with a violation of the law is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court at law, according to constitutional law.
