Eagle Pass Winn High School Mavericks Remain in Class 5A after U. I. L. Realignment

Eagle Pass C. C. Winn High School Mavericks Head Football Coach and Athletic Coordinator Eric Villasenor announced that the Mavericks will remain in Class 5A for football, all non-football sports, and all academic and interscholastic activities for 2022-2024 after the University Interscholastic League (U. I. L.) realignment of all Texas high schools were announced on Thursday, February 3, 2022.
Villasenor noted that for football only the Mavericks will play in a newly realigned District 13-5A, Division I (currently 14-5A) during 2022-2024 composed of the following nine (9) high schools: Eagle Pass Winn Mavericks, Castroville-Medina Valley Panthers, Laredo Cigarroa Toros, Laredo Martin Tigers, Laredo Nixon Mustangs, San Antonio Southside Cardinals, San Antonio Southwest Dragons, San Antonio Southwest Legacy Titans, and South San Antonio Bobcats. The new District teams include Castroville-Medina Valley, Laredo Nixon, Laredo Cigarroa, and South San Antonio.
Villasenor added that for all other non-football sports such as volleyball, basketball, baseball, cross-country, track and field, and academic and interscholastic activities, Winn will remain in District 28-5A during 2022-2024 composed of the following eight (8) high schools: Eagle Pass Winn Mavericks, Castroville-Medina Valley Panthers, San Antonio Harlandale Indians, San Antonio McCollum Cowboys, San Antonio Southside Cardinals, San Antonio Southwest Dragons, San Antonio Southwest Legacy Titans, and South San Antonio Bobcats. The new schools in District 28-5A are Castroville-Medina Valley and South San Antonio.
Villasenor noted that both District 13-5A, Division I for football and District 28-5A for all other non-football sports will be highly competitive with the addition of new schools.
