Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber in a press release issued on Saturday, September 4, 2021, identified the Eagle Pass male individual shot and killed on Friday, September 3, 2021, as 48 year old Jesus De Los Santos.
Sheriff Schmerber stated that Maverick County Sheriff Deputies responded to a disturbance call by the 900 block of Progeso Street in Loma Bonita Subdivision in Eagle Pass, Texas on Friday, September 3, at approximately 8:30 p.m.
Schmerber added that “while responding to said address, Deputies were updated that a male subject was shot on the leg. With the assistance of a DPS Trooper,” a tourniquet was applied to stop the bleeding on Jesus De Los Santos. The Eagle Pass Fire Department EMS shortly thereafter arrived at the scene of the incident and transported the injured Jesus De Los Santos to the Fort Duncan Regional Medical Center Emergency Room, where he succumbed due to his injuries, said Schmerber.
Schmerber noted that a male individual was momentarily detained and later released on pending charges as the investigation continues under the Texas Rangers and the Maverick County Sheriff’s Department Detective Division. The name of the detained male individual was not released by Schmerber.
The shooting incident occurred in the Loma Bonita Subdivision in southern Eagle Pass, just outside the city limits in Maverick County. Recently, Maverick County Commissioners Court approved a project to construct and open a Sheriff’s Department Sub-Station for $350,000 in Loma Bonita Subdivision due to the high crime rate in the area. Maverick County Commissioner Precinct 4 Roberto Ruiz has been requesting for many years that a Sheriff’s Department Sub-Station be built in Loma Bonita Subdivision, but his request was just recently approved. The Loma Bonita Sub-Station will be constructed in the near future.
