In Loving Memory of Javier “Jay” Escobar

Eagle Pass Independent School District Educator Javier “Jay” Escobar, age 62, passed away on Tuesday, December 29, 2020, in San Antonio, Texas. He was an Art Teacher at Eagle Pass Junior High at the time of his passing and previously taught at San Luis Elementary, Memorial Junior High, Pete Gallego Elementary, and C. C. Winn High School within the Eagle Pass Independent School District.
Mr. Escobar graduated from Eagle Pass High School in 1978 and obtained his Bachelor of Art degree from Texas A & I University at Kingsville, now Texas A & M University-Kingsville.
Mr. Escobar was well-liked and respected by his students, administrators, and friends. Art was his passion and teaching fine art was his strength and purpose in life. He will be greatly missed by his family, children, students, administrators, and friends.
Mr. Escobar was born on September 6, 1958 in Eagle Pass, Texas to the late Julian Escobar and Maria Elena Escobar, also of Eagle Pass, Texas. He is preceded in death by his father, Julian Escobar. He is survived by his loving mother, Maria Elena Escobar, two children: Jaime Escobar and Dillon Escobar, six brothers and sisters: Sandra Escobar, Marco Antonio Escobar, Julian Escobar, Juan Escobar, Ruben Escobar, and Roberto Escobar, many nephews and nieces, aunts and uncles, and other family members.
Mr. Escobar enjoyed being a painter and an artist, expressing himself on canvas, automobiles, motorcycles, and all art objects imaginable. He was widely known and recognized as an outstanding artist and teacher.
Mr. Escobar enjoyed participating in Classic Car shows and associations, motorcycle riding clubs, and teaching art to all who sought his assistance and mentorship. He was known by the nickname of “Jet” among auto enthusiasts and motorcycle club riders in Eagle Pass and throughout the United States and Mexico. Among family, friends, colleagues, and students he was also known as “Jay” Escobar.
According to the Eagle Pass Junior High School Facebook Page, “our Eagle Pass Junior High community is saddened to learn of the passing of Mr. Javier Escobar. He was an outstanding Art Teacher who cared very deeply about his success and well being of all of his students. We will all miss him very much.”

Riojas Funeral Home announced that public viewing/visitation for Javier “Jay” Escobar will be held on Thursday, December 31, 2020 from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at 1451 South Veterans Blvd., Eagle Pass, Texas 78852 followed by a mass and interment at Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Cemetery at 12 Noon in Eagle Pass, Texas.
