Eagle Pass Eagles Quarterback Jacob Kobe Ruiz Named 2020 District 30-6A Football Offensive Most Valuable Player, Middle Linebacker Charlie Schuessler Named Defensive Most Valuable Player, Head Coach Tom Gonzalez Named Coach of the Year, and 30 Eagles Receive All-District Football Team Honors

Eagle Pass High School Eagles Athletic Coordinator and Head Football Coach Tom Gonzalez authorized the Eagle Pass Business Journal to announce the 2020 District 30-6A All-District Football Team honors after the loss of Laredo United South Panthers to the Cibolo-Schertz Steele Knights 41-17 on Saturday, December 26, 2020 in the third-round of the state playoffs, culminating in a total of 30 Eagles receiving All-District Football honors and Head Coach Gonzalez being named the Coach of the Year after the Eagles captured the District 30-6A Championship undefeated (6-0) in the shortened 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Eagles senior quarterback Jacob Kobe Ruiz received the Offensive Most Valuable Player of the Year Award by the District Head Football Coaches after guiding the Eagles to an undefeated 6-0 District 30-6A record and outright Championship while teammate senior middle linebacker Charlie Schuessler was named the Defensive Most Valuable Player of the Year Award by the District Head Football Coaches for his outstanding play and leadership in the heralded “Land Sharks” Defense during the 2020 season.
Eagles junior wide receiver Dakota Kypuros was selected as the Offensive Most Outstanding Wide Receiver in the 2020 season by the District Head Football Coaches for his extraordinary play during District while sophomore running back T. J. Mares was selected as the District’s Offensive Co-Newcomer of the Year for his outstanding offensive prowess in the Eagles’ “War Eagles” offense during 2020.
Eagles named to the elite First Team All-District Offense Team are senior slot receiver Carlos Santos, senior offensive tackle Arnaldo Perez, senior offensive guard Emmanuel Balderas, senior center Juan De Leon, and senior punter Fernando Sarabia.
Eagles named to the elite First Team All-District Defense Team are junior interior lineman Javier Santos, junior defensive end Eric Lara, junior inside linebacker Victor Chavez, senior outside linebacker Uriel Martinez, junior cornerback Jose Hernandez, and senior place kicker Lazaro Villarreal.
Eagles named to the Second Team All-District OffenseTeam are senior wide receiver CGC Ritchie, senior running back Lazaro Villarreal, junior slot receiver OJ Ruiz, junior offensive tackle Alfredo Guevara, and sophomore offensive guard Derek Ruiz.
Eagles named to the Second Team All-District Defense Team are senior interior lineman Tommy Cantu, senior interior lineman CJ Jimenez, junior defensive end Nathan Aguilera, junior inside linebacker Eddie Sepulveda, sophomore cornerback Isaac Stanwick, and senior safety Chris Hiller.
Eagles receiving recognition as Honorable Mention Offense Team are sophomore tight end Jarod Romero and junior offensive lineman Joel Tapia, while receiving recognition as Honorable Mention Defense Team are senior cornerback Ray Rodriguez and senior defensive end Yosgarth Ayala.
The Eagles finished with an overall season record of 6-1, the 2020 District 30-6A Football Championship, and advancing to the Bi-District Championship state playoffs, where they fell to the San Antonio Taft Raider 28-14 in a hard fought game.
