Diaz will replace outgoing City Councilman Rudy Villapando, who served for 14 years and lost a close race for Mayor on February 1, 2020 against fellow City Councilman Luis E. Sifuentes, for the remainder of Villalpando’s term.
Elizabeth Chisum De La Garza gracefully offered her congratulatory remarks to Elias Diaz shortly after the final election results were announced at the County Courthouse steps by election judge Arturo Delgado.
Diaz thanked all the voters of the City of Eagle Pass who came out to vote in this run-off election and stated he looks forward to representing all of the citizens of Eagle Pass, including those who voted for him, those who did not vote for him, and those who did not vote in the election. Diaz added that when “Elias Wins, Everybody Wins.”
The Eagle Pass City Council will canvass the election results at their next meeting and officially declare Elias Diaz as the winner of the City Council Place 2 Run-Off Election while City Secretary Imelda Rodriguez will administer the Oath of Office to Diaz.
The Eagle Pass City Council is composed of Mayor Luis E. Sifuentes, Mayor Pro-Tem William Davis, and City Council Members Yolanda P. Ramon, Rolando Salinas, and outgoing Councilman Rudy Villalpando.
