Elizabeth Chisum De La Garza, Candidate for City of Eagle Pass Council Place 2
(Press Release) From a very early age my parents taught me the value of hard work and commitment. My father did not live long enough to see me graduate from high school, but with the support of my mother, family and student loans, I was able to work my way through college and obtain my degree from Texas A&M International University in Laredo, Texas.
After graduating from college, I returned home with a passion to serve this wonderful community that helped shape the person that I am today.
I have been proud to serve my community as an Educator and now as a Speech and Language Pathologist Assistant working with our amazing special needs children. I wanted to do more for our City and have had the privilege to serve as a City Appointee on various Advisory Boards for seven years. We were instrumental in implementing many improvement projects while I served on both the Eagle Pass International Bridge and Parks & Recreation Boards. I saw the potential that our community has always had while serving on these two Boards and am even more driven to be part of the progress of our community.
However, the core of who and what I am lies at my home.
I am a woman, daughter, wife, and, most importantly, a mother. Like many of you, I have the same worries and questions regarding the safety of our community, especially our elderly and children.
I worry for my mother who is 80 years old and how to keep her safe from the COVID-19 virus. I worry for my children and their health, safety, and education in this COVID-19 pandemic. How do we provide the best education for our children in today’s COVID-19 era? Do we provide our children with in-person or online instruction or a hybrid of both? I also worry for my husband who is in law enforcement and all who are serving as frontline essential workers. How will it work? How can we remain safe? How can our City continue to provide services for our citizens safely and effectively? How can we continue to attract investors to our community in order for our citizens to prosper? These are all questions that we all have. I want to be part of a team to provide solutions to these questions for your families and mine. I humbly ask for your vote and support in the upcoming City of Eagle Pass Special City Officers Run-Off Election starting with Early Voting on August 19 to September 1, 2020 from 8 A.M. to 5 P.M. at the Multi-Purpose Center, located at 480 S. Adams Street, and on Election Day on Saturday, September 5, 2020 from 7 A.M. to 7 P.M. at the Multi-Purpose Center.
Political Announcement Paid by the Candidate.
