Eagle Pass Independent School District (EPISD) Superintendent Samuel Mijares announced that the Eagle Pass High School graduation ceremony will be held on Friday, June 26, 2020 at 8:45 P.M. and the C. C. Winn High School graduation will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2020 at 8:45 P.M. at the District’s Student Activity Center, located at 5027 E. U.S. Highway 277 in Eagle Pass, Texas.
Mijares stated the two scheduled graduations will be held live in-person at the EPISD Student Activity Center Cozel Foster-Veterans Memorial Stadium with social distancing restrictions. Mijares added that each graduate will be limited to one vehicle with up to four guests and children age 10 or younger will not be allowed at the graduation ceremonies. The gates to the EPISD Student Activity Center will open at 7 P.M. on each respective graduation day.
Mijares noted that the EPISD Police Department will be assisted by the Eagle Pass and Maverick County Emergency Operations Center Officers and Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers in managing traffic, public safety, and social distancing during the graduations.
Originally, the two local high school graduations were scheduled to be held on Friday, June 5th, and Saturday, June 6th, but due to the current COVID-19 pandemic the graduations had to be rescheduled to the new dates. For a moment, there was the possibility that the two graduations were going to be held through a virtual ceremony or be cancelled due to the deadly Coronavirus pandemic. However, the EPISD was able to save the day for the Class of 2020 graduates by designing a live in-person graduation plan with social distancing restrictions.
Eagle Pass High School Class of 2020 has over 600 graduates while the C.C. Winn High School Class of 2020 has over 500 graduates.
